Global Services and Infrastructure for Next Generation Networking Symposium

Co-Chairs:
Ryoichi Komiya (Multimedia Co-Chair)
rkomiya@rku.ac.jp
Heinrich Stuttgen (IP Telephony Co-Chair) stuttgen@ccrl.nec.de

Next Generation Networking services will be strongly multimedia oriented and the networking infrastructure will be based on IP. Users want transparent access to services through a multitude of devices and a variety of networks; they want to have the services of their choice available anywhere, anytime and in the best possible quality. They expect their services to be context aware and to automatically adapt to the environment in which they are used. Concepts like the virtual home environments (VHE) will help users to use their familiar services wherever they are.

This symposium brings together ideas to provide services that are multimedia in nature, that operate over fixed and wireless networks, and which adapt to the context they are operating in. Different technologies at the service level, network level, and hardware/physical level are required to support such scenarios. One multimedia service of growing importance is IP Telephony, its strength is the easier provisioning of rich voice and integrated data and telephony (CTI) services. New solutions are needed for many aspects like signaling, privacy and security, charging and accounting, reliability and scalability, operating in the ever changing environment of modern nomadic Internet users.

The symposium emphasizes all aspects of providing novel communication services over a heterogeneous network infrastructure.
